.orgapalooza Theme

Hope everyone is getting excited for .orgapalooza! As we get closer to the event, I'd like to put together some new themes for the site. Even though I know you're all so fond of the eggs.

If you're interested in contributing a theme, you can submit it to dave@ryanadams.org. The guidelines are the same as last time around (see details).

I would only ask that your theme not mention the full domain name (ryanadams.org or alt-country.org). Just .org is fine, and will allow us to use it on either site.

A 7 will soon replace the 6 in 2006.

Not a musician? How can YOU participate?

Design the official .Orgapalooza flyer/logo!

Requirements:
- must contain something .org related... duh! what does that mean? um, whatever you want!
- portrait (vs landscape) layout preferred, provide both versions if desired
- include the event name (.Orgapalooza) and date (May 18-19, 2007)
- MUST be an original design

Optional:
- include location (The Knitting Factory - 74 Leonard St. New York, NY)
- list names of performing artists (final lineup will be announced soon)
- reference online links, e.g. alt-country.org, ryan-adams.com, myspace.com/orgapalooza

Considerations:
- may be scaled down to credit card size or enlarged for posters/t-shirts

The winning design will be used on promotional banners, flyers, websites and other merchandise.

Happy New Year, .orgers! It's 2007 and it's surely going to be the best year for Ryan fans yet!

Planning is heavily underway. The contract is in its second review and close to finalization.

I'm currently listening to all the bands who have requested to play and will be announcing a line-up soon... stay tuned! I'm working on booking up to 20 bands, so it's definitely gonna be a weekend full of fun and music!

I'm also looking into blocking rooms at a nearby hotel (translate: within stumbling distance!) Room rates are currently ranging between $165-189 and $259-269.

I hope to have ticket sales up by Feb 1st or as soon as the contract is final. Tickets will be $25 each per night - this is to cover the room rentals (private parties in NYC aren't cheap!) and hopefully to give the bands a little something, if we sell enough tickets. There will be some great headliners both nights, so you won't want to miss either! And course, you can't miss the Best Ryan Cover contest. I've heard a few songs already; it's gonna be tough!

Dot orgers, I hope you all plan to come out and support YOUR bands!!!

Just wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Looks like we have a LOT to look forward to next year :)

A quick update on .Orgapalooza planning: I have received the initial contract from The Knitting Factory and I am currently reviewing it (you know, checking it twice!) before I sign the "dotted line" (actually it's solid, but dotted sounds cooler).

Thanks again to all the great bands/musicians who have submitted music or expressed interest in performing for us. You're not making my job easy! Well, I'm going to do my best to get everyone a spot, cuz I don't want anyone to feel left out! I'm really excited about this... it's going to be a weekend of excellent music and endless fun!

Anyway, I'm going to need a little help from the .org musicians to help with the lineup. If you requested a slot to play, please answer the following questions and send your response to orgapalooza@ryanadams.org:

1) How many members in your band? If not solo, will all members be attending and performing?

2) What is your setup? i.e. 1 acoustic, 2 guitars + drums + 1 keyboard, 1 vocalist + 1 didgeridoo + 1 tambourine, etc.

3) Do you have enough music for a short set? e.g. 4-6 songs

4) Will you be entering the Best Ryan Cover contest? If so, what song do you plan on performing?

Note: the Cover contest may be held separately from the .org performances, so please take this into consideration

I would like to decide the lineup by mid-January so everyone can start planning (and practicing!). If you are chosen, I will be in touch with you before then to discuss booking details. Note: There is a clause in the contract whereby The Knitting Factory will be taking a small cut (10%) of artist merch sales. Just thought I'd mention that now.

Well, lots still left to do... but it's going to be awesome!!!

WOW - the mailbox is receiving a steady flow of responses!!! Thanks to everyone who has expressed interest :)

.orgers, I have GREAT news...

I have a venue for .Orgapalooza!!! I am so happy about this because it's one step closer... :)

It will be held at The Knitting Factory in Tribeca, NYC on the weekend of May 18-20!

I am working with the private event planner this week and hopefully we will have most of the details flushed out soon...

Knitting Factory has hosted artists including: Debbie Harry, Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, Dashboard Confessional, Bright Eyes, John Zorn, Cat Power, Erika Badu, Ween, Bloc Party, M.I.A., Arcade Fire, John Cale, The Roots, Polyphonic Spree, Modest Mouse, John Mayer, Damien Rice... and now possibly YOU!

Many of you have submitted your bands/sites for review to perform at this event. We will be going through each of these and contacting you soon, hopefully.

If you would like to help plan or are a .org musician and would like to play for us, please send a message to orgapalooza@ryanadams.org.

Stay tuned!!! We will also be having a T-shirt design and video contest, too... so keep your eye out for that! :)

That's right, dot-orgers. In May 2007, New York City won't know what hit it. So, keep your calendars open. Start stuffing your tin cans and piggy banks. Make your "must-meet" list. Practice your best dance moves. You won't want to miss this!

There's a brand new weekend music festival coming to The Larmer Tree Gardens near Salisbury on 15th to 17th September, and GWR FM have got weekend passes to give away on their website.

The End of the Road Festival will be an intimate affair for 5,000 people, which enables the bands to play longer sets than usual. The organisers promise a range of quality food and beers, and a crowd who are there for the music. It will be a great way to end the summer - camping out for the weekend in a stunning location and enjoying a wide range of top musical talent.

Artists include Ryan Adams, Badly Drawn Boy, British Sea Power and Ed Harcourt. There's also an open mic stage, comedy, films, workshops, big top music until 2am, and a kids' arena.

GWR are giving away a pair of weekend tickets worth £190 evey weekday from Monday 4th to Friday 8th September.
