The first songs you ever remember hearing

These are the kind of things that go through my head when I've got a half hour left to work. These are the tunes I remember hearing when I was little. Since the musical tastes on this board are wide and varied, I'd like to hear from you.

Re: The first songs you ever remember hearing

My earliest music memory was when Dad was in the garage, doing stuff at his workbench, and he was listening to the radio. "Money For Nothing" came on, and my sister and I were dancing and singing along. Now that I think about it, two little girls singing "Get your money for nothing, get your chicks for free!" is slightly disturbing.

I absolutely love them . . . I guess I thought most would think mixing Kool and the Gang, Ozzy, Dylan and Buffett would make a strange brew. You guys are obviously more open minded than most.

All of those (save Joanna) are still some of my favorites.

Re: The first songs you ever remember hearing

Any form of Southern rock and 70's FM was always playing in our house. My dad was also a huge Ziggy Stardust and Frank Zappa fan. It was sort of a mix of the achingly bad, and the totally awesome.

I had two songs though that I tore up when I was a toddler. They were Loverboy's "Turn me Loose," and John Cougar Mellencamp's "Hurts so Good." The funny thing about the Loverboy song is I couldn't say my L's quite yet. I sang it as, turn me noose.

Re: The first songs you ever remember hearing

"Small Town" by John (Cougar) Mellencamp. My mom owned a vinyl copy of Scarecrow and my Brother, sister and I would listen to it over and over.

When I was six, my family drove to Florida (from Colorado) to visit family and one of the only things I remember from the drive part of the trip was listening to "Graceland" by Paul Simon and "Nick of Time" by Bonnie Riatt. My mom brought both of the albums on the long trip.
I still love those albums.

Jukebox Hero by Triumph was an early favorite.

Re: The first songs you ever remember hearing

somewhat funny story. so in 3rd grade at a Parochial school and we were having a talent show. Lipsyncing was cool that year so everyone was getting their songs picked. I remember coming home and telling my mom that I was going to be in the talent show and we were going to do Centerfold by the J Geils Band. I couldn't figure out why she freaked out for years. Supposed the nuns might not have liked that.

Don't Go Breaking My Heart -- Elton John and Kiki Dee
Staying Alive -- Bee Gees
More Than A Woman -- Bee Gees
How Deep Is Your Love -- Bee Gees
Photographs & Memories -- Jim Croce
Operator (That's Not the Way It Feels) -- Jim Croce
Rocket Man -- Elton John
Crocodile ROck -- Elton John
Silly Love Songs -- Paul McCartney (this was the first single I ever owned, by the way)

I lived with my grandmother and my aunt until I was 9, and my grandmother listened to LOTS of Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty. Also, LOTS of Elton John & the Beatles. My aunt was convinced she'd marry Elton John someday, and my mom was a huge Beatles fan.
